La Palenquera | Women's Yellow Blazer
La Palenquera is one of Colombia's most beautiful and notable cultural icons. Palenqueras were originally from San Basilio de Palenque. This small village in Colombia was ruled entirely by former enslave Afro-Latino men and women and this town went on to become on of the very first freetowns in the Americas. Today you can see the beautiful Palenquera women walking around Cartagena in their stunning colorful dresses selling fruit from baskets on their head or taking pictures with tourists. The lining of this beautiful blazer is a painting by Chera and it reminds me of the jungles of Colombia, a place I also call home.
