Crying Is A Two Person Job

Crying Is A Two Person Job

I saw something recently about how we shouldn’t be our authentic selves at our workplace, we should only be our professional selves.

Something about it just doesn’t sit right with me.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t make, yet another thing, void of humanity. We are not robots. Forgive me if I dare to feel from the hours of 9-5pm but I am a sentient being. I’m not asking that you condone or celebrate a full blown tantrum in the middle of our shared workspace, but If my dog just died, or if I am going through something, anything, let’s just give each other permission to react, humanly.

In this technologically advanced world, AI can never and will never be able to produce or replicate our most human ability, our ability to feel.

Our work spaces don't need less empathy, they need more. People are not just numbers and I'm not sure that treating people as such ensures long term efficiency. It might be efficient at the moment but when you find yourself having to constantly look for new people to hire because you’ve created an environment where people can't be themselves in a place where they spend the majority of their time, you have a problem.

The crying policy at PWR WMN is to at least have one person crying with you. That’s a two person job.
